Are You Ready To Play? EduMarking Cleaning Guide

December 27th, 2019

So now you have a beautiful playground, but mother nature decided to put dirt on your markings. How do I clean it? Well fear not, we have tips and guidelines to help you maintain your markings to help keep them looking their best for years to come.

Supplies you will need:

  1. Power washer (Lowe’s, Home Depot or other equipment rental)
  2. Push Broom
  3. Mild detergent (Dawn or Palmolive dish soaps)
  4. Bucket
  5. Acrylic based Cure and Seal (we recommend MASTERKURE CC 300SB, available at many construction supply stores)
  6. 9” Paint roller with pole handle
  7. 9” Paint pan with liners
  8. Optional: powered blower

How to clean your markings:

  1. Sweep or blow the markings with the bush broom or power blower
    1. Ensure all loose dirt and debris is clear from the markings
  2. Fill bucket with water and a small amount of liquid dish soap
    1. Stir the mixture until the dish soap it completely dissolved
  3. With the broom, gently apply the soap mixture
    1. You only need to lightly scrub the surface
  4. Power wash:
    1. Use 40° or larger angled tip
    2. Use lower pressure setting (about the same as a carwash), if adjustable
  5. Using a sweeping motion, hold the power washer wand directly over the marking, not at an angle.
    1. Remember, you are cleaning the surface, not trying to remove the marking
    2. Avoid spraying the edges at an angle
  6. Continue washing until the suds stop forming, this will ensure all the dish soap is removed
  7. Let the marking dry
  8. Check the weather
    1. You do not want to apply the Acrylic based Seal and Cure if rain is expected within 24 hours of application
  9. Once dry, apply a light coating of the Acrylic based Seal and Cure with the paint roller
    1. Allow to completely dry before resuming play activity.
